Guest Work
Since November 2018, Itsasmuseum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao have collaborated regularly and continuously through the Guest Work programme. Through the alliance, evidence of the institution’s excellent working relationship, a selected, representative work from the extensive collection at the Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao is shown temporarily at the Itsasmuseum Bilbao. These works are displayed with other pieces in its collection and in a different context to highlight the maritime culture of Biscay.
Itsasmuseum currently has the sculpture entitled El Timonel by Quintin de Torre, El grumete blanco, a painting by Julian de Tellaeche and Bilbo MMX, a large mural by Jesus Mari Lazkano on loan through the programme.

This initiative brings new stimulus to the Itsasmuseum Bilbao, and is an opportunity to see works of artistic and historical value from the hundred-year-old gallery in Bilbao in a different context. The change of theme inspires innovative, coherent dialogue between the pieces on temporary loan and the rest of the collection.
Mal tiempo. Holanda
Itsasmuseum has received the temporary loan of the work Mal tiempo. Holanda by Álvaro Alcalá Galiano (Bilbao, 1873-Paracuellos del Jarama, Madrid, 1936) as part of the program The Invited Work, signed by the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and Itsasmuseum Bilbao. This is the fifth received on loan by this institution since 2018 and it does so at a very special time, as May 21, 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the artist’s birth.
